Jett was born in Wynnewood, a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She got her first guitar for Christmas from his father at age 13 after she spent all her time to writing songs. Joan Jett's family moved to West Covina, a suburb of Los Angeles to give her the opportunity to pursue their musical talent. In Los Angeles she meets one of her great role models Suzi Quatro.Jett forming The Runaways when she is 15 years old, along with drummer Sandy West.Micki Steele (who was later replaced), Jackie Fox, Lita Ford and Cherie Currie. The band recorded five LPs, with Live In Japan became one of the best selling import vinyls in U.S. and UK history.

1979 Joan Jett began collaborating with songwriter and producer Kenny Laguna for hers first solo album.
After 23 major record companies had refused to sign Joan Jett started their own Blackheart Records with the help of the Laguna took her daughter's savings she would have for college. 1981 came the album "I Love Rock n Roll" the title track became a superhit which was number one on the billboard for seven weeks in a row it is the # 28 song on the billboard of all time.

To this date, Joan Jett has eight gold and platinum records and has had nine top 40 singles with "Bad Reputation" "I Love Rock n Roll" "Crimson and Clover" and "I Hate Myself For Loving You" e.t.c. She is the CEO of his own record label Blackheart Records and has written many songs together with other artists blah "House on Fire" by Alice Cooper.
